Increased sales at Zooplus

Europe's leading online retailer of pet products, Zooplus AG, has released its financial figures for the first nine months of the 2009 fiscal year. These showed that the company was able to increase its overall operating performance (sales and other operating revenue) considerably in the reporting period. An overall figure of € 92.5 mio was achieved, representing an increase of 57.2 per cent compared with the previous year (€ 58.9 mio). Of this figure, around € 87.6 mio resulted from sales revenue from online sales and a further € 4.9 mio from other operating revenue. At the same time, Zooplus's operating activities (EBIT) showed a decline from € 0.3 mio in the comparable period of the previous year to - € 1.1 mio. This figure includes the one-off costs of the new logistics centre in Tilburg (Netherlands) and the outlay on changing segments to the Prime Standard (overall effect: - € 0.9 mio). The group result for the first nine months of 2009 fell from € 4.8 mio in the previous year to - € 0.8 mio. Zooplus has also stated that it gained 515 000 additional customer accounts compared with 323 000 in the comparable period of the previous year.
