Baumax enters the Turkish market

The Austrian DIY store and garden centre operator Baumax racked up roughly Euro1.4 bn in sales last year, more or less equivalent to the previous year's figures, according to the company. Pet supplies accounted for approx. Euro611 mio, an increase of 3 per cent compared with the previous year. Baumax currently operates 142 stores in eight countries. On 3 March the Austrian chain opened its first Turkish store on a retail area of around 15 000 m² in Samsun, approximately 450 km north of Ankara on the Black Sea. Two further stores are expected to follow this year in Izmit and Istanbul. The company aims to open 30 outlets in the longer term, with a sales volume of Euro600 mio.
