Fressnapf gets out of Spain

Oct 2, 2010

Fressnapf's head office and its Spanish country manager Frank Rohrdanz have sold the company's seven stores in Spain with effect from 1 June. The Spanish subsidiary Maxi Zoo Espana could not compensate for the high rental burden and upgrading costs for each store, according to a company press release, even though there had been a "fundamentally positive sales trend".

The speciality retailer Masquepet in Madrid will continue to operate all seven stores under the Kiwoko logo and has taken on all the employees of Maxi Zoo Espana. The word in industry circles in Spain is that it has acquired the former Pet's Place outlets too.
