"interpets –A Happy and Healthy Life with Pets", the first international pet trade fair in Japan will be held on 25-28 (Thurs.-Sun) August 2011. The fair is organized by Japan Pet Food Association (JPFA); an organization aimed to secure a safe and sound life for pets and Mesago Messe Frankfurt Corporation; the international trade fair organizer. The fair is likely to attract many products, services and ideas that will enhance lifestyles of people and pets.
The Japanese pet industry has grown into a 2 billion yen market owing to the social transition such as declining birthrate and a growing proportion of elderly people, and a shift to a nuclear family. However, the environment surrounding pets in Japan is still lagging behind Western countries because of the delay in the development of laws, lack in public spaces that alow pets to enter, and the level of awareness among pet owners. There is yet a situation where people merely see therapeutic aspects in pets, which is a one-sided communication. Therefore, there are needs for an international platform to exchange and pool knowledge in order to bring the conscious level of the existing pet owners and the potential pet owners (being more than twice as many as the existing owners) to think about how to live happily and comfortably with pets. "interpets" is an event that will meet these needs in the clearest way ever.
In addition, the pet industry that has been growing is experiencing stagnation, thus is required to collaborate with other companies and globalize. "interpets" is an exciting event that has already gained publicity by a wide range of sectors to become a newly born platform to change not only the pet industry, but the culture itself.
At the moment, starting with the domestic companies that are the members of JPFA, around 100 product maufacturing companies have decided to participate, and 150 more including the international companies are considering to join. Chinese pavillion is planned to be set up consisting of exhibitors from China and Hong Kong chosen by the organizer from CIPS, China's largest pet event. Special events and seminars are also on its way to take shape.
