The Des Moines-based Customer Laboratory Services (CLS) facility of the US company Kemin, responsible for analysing pet food and pet food ingredients, has received accreditation to the International Organisation of Standardisation (ISO)/International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) to the 17025:2005 standard. The achievement, granted by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation, recognizes the company’s technical competence and ability to produce consistent and valid results, as announced by Kemin in a press release.
ISO 17025 is an internationally recognized standard that validates an organization’s testing or calibration methods. While ISO 17025 is not a required qualification, Kemin chose to be reviewed by a third-party accreditation body to instil a high degree of confidence in its analyses.
The accredited CLS facility provides dedicated analytical support throughout all phases of the pet food manufacturing process. The laboratory analyses many raw materials used in pet food, such as animal protein meals, animal fats, vegetable oils and kibble from final diets. In 2012 alone this lab performed over 64 300 tests and analysed over 30 800 samples for Kemin customers.
