Robert Moran
Petsmart Inc. reported on June 18 that its board of directors has appointed Robert Moran to the position of chief executive officer. Moran, who has been the Phoenix-based company's president and chief operating officer since 2001, will retain his title as president.
Moran, 58, is replacing Phil Francis, who will stay on as executive chairman of the board. Francis will continue to work with Moran and Petsmart's leadership team on business and financial strategies.
"Bob is the perfect leader to take the company through the current economic challenges and toward a strong and sustainable future," Francis said. "He's crafted and led a clear strategy that continues to produce results, built a strong leadership team and successfully aligned Petsmart's 46,000 people around his vision for this business."
Moran joined Petsmart in July 1999 as president of North American stores. Prior to joining Petsmart, Moran worked at Toys R Us Ltd., Canada, where he served as president. Moran also spent 20 years with Sears, Roebuck and Co. in a variety of financial and merchandising positions, including president and chief executive officer of Sears de Mexico.
